Blog EntryPoetry Wednesday - Time XXIJun 11, '08 1:51 AM
for everyone

Please allow me to share one of Khalil Gibran's poems!. I am not that familiar with his poems, yet I read one of his works "The Prophet" - click there to read my review.

Time XXI

And an astronomer said, "Master, what of Time?"

And he answered:

You would measure time the measureless and the immeasurable.

You would adjust your conduct and even direct the course of your spirit according to hours and seasons.

Of time you would make a stream upon whose bank you would sit and watch its flowing.

Yet the timeless in you is aware of life's timelessness,

And knows that yesterday is but today's memory and tomorrow is today's dream.

And that that which sings and contemplates in you is still dwelling within the bounds of that first moment which scattered the stars into space.

Who among you does not feel that his power to love is boundless?

And yet who does not feel that very love, though boundless, encompassed within the centre of his being, and moving not form love thought to love thought, nor from love deeds to other love deeds?

And is not time even as love is, undivided and paceless?

But if in you thought you must measure time into seasons, let each season encircle all the other seasons,

And let today embrace the past with remembrance and the future with longing.

Khalil Gibran

To me, his poems and works are always touching my deepest thoughts. I'd say his writings are beautifully written, yet easily understood; this is why I like his writings. " Time XXI" ; I am asking you, "Why does time fly high so fast?" . Enjoy your day there! and thanks for reading the power of speech written by Khalil Gibran.

I like this! I hate the word "time" for all the it implies when dealing with someone needing time and space away from a loved one. But this really does make sense to me. Wish I had read it a few months ago LOL!

Thanks for sharing this with us!

Gibran is one of my favorites. I should go back and read The Prophet--it's a self-contained philosophy lesson.

Now this line is very powerful, as I never linked Time with Love:

And is not time even as love is, undivided and paceless?
Time and love are on one never ending continuum.

Thanks for giving us something to think about.

God is outside of time and I believe that originally we were also. Our time on earth has become quite short -- we do not live in love enough.

I had never heard of this poet so I'm going to find out more. This is beautiful.

Gibran is the guru of inspiration on wordly matters~so very enlightened was he.
Thanks for the chance to renew my thoughts on time...I sat and viewed this piece with such appreciation of the wisdom it offers.

speaking of "time" sometimes freaks me out when some goals fail are yet to achieve, :-) too bad we can't turn back time! LOL

You really should read that great trilogy, Sue.

You are right; "Our time on earth has become quite short -....", the next thing you know; you have already reached some stages of life with or without some goals achieved. Love and Time - hmm don't know why I lose my power of speech in this case, hehehe

Time goes by so fast...if you really had so much fun:)......I love Khalil Gibran's poem since I was a little girl....I read his book a lot until now. I just finished The Prophet, I borrowed that book from my mother in law. The prophet's teaching on love is particularly relevant to me at this stage of my life. This may be a short book, but it is full of insight. It is perfect to dip into at odd moment for that renewed spiritual focus or uplift, or just as good to read in one sitting. It is a classic with good reason and cuts to the core with it's deceptively simple style. There is much depth to this book to be explored and comes highly recommended. So enjoy your day dear Lulu........

The answers to all this are found in these questions ...

"And yet who does not feel that very love, though boundless, encompassed within the centre of his being, and moving not form love thought to love thought, nor from love deeds to other love deeds?"

This was really an absorbing post and read ... thank you. 8=)

The pure, simple yet vast, wisdom of Khalil Gibran!!!....
I've first read "The Prophet" when I was 18, and, believe me, it has been accompanying me for the next twenty years!
I love reading - well, yes, and writing too - poetry, but there are some poets and poetesses that have become my closest friends for life...And Gibran is one of them!!!

Thank you! :)
