Genre: Romance
There are indeed lots of movies I have watched; either Indonesian or foreign ones.Yet, I seldom put up movies on my reviews if they do not leave any impressions to me at all.

"The Painted Veil" is one of the most endearing romance movies ever. It is based on the novel of Somerset Maugham. Taking a set mostly in Shanghai and a remote area in China with the cholera oubreak in 1920s, a spouse encounters some marital conflicts, which lead them into a great romance through a journey that touches your humanity side. The storyline is actually a bit typical in my country ( a lot of romance Indonesian movies have this kind of storyline.). I am in love with the musical background too. I think the piano solo really gives emotional feelings to the movie. With a little bit of flasback, I was a bit in tears already when the movie just started. And I was more in tears at the end:-(. I'd say "The Painted Veil" also displays some cultural background of Chinese in the earlier time around 1920s ( or maybe the culture I saw in the movie is still firmly believed by the Chinese).

I just don't feel satisfied with the ending! but in some points the ending is also very relieving; the loyalty is finaly there in her heart and mind!.( if you are lost, then you've got to see "The Painted Veil", then you might know what I mean by "Loyalty" here.)

Here are some of my favorite quotes taken from the movie:
Walter Fane : I knew when I married you that you were selfish and spoiled. But I loved you. I knew you only married me to get as far away from your mother as possible. And I hoped that one day... there'd be something more. I was wrong. You don't have it in you.

Kitty Fane: If a man hasn't what's necessary to make a woman love him then it's *his* fault not hers.

Walter Fane: Either way. Tomorrow morning we are to leave for Mei-tan-fu, or I shall file my petition.

Kitty Fane: Walter, you can't be serious about taking me into the middle of a cholera epidemic.

Walter Fane: Do you think that I'm not?

Kitty Fane: My God. That's what you want isn't it? Do you really think Charlie will let you do this?

Walter Fane: I don't think Charlie has very much to say about it.

Kitty Fane: Everything you said is true. Everything. I married you even though I didn't love you. But you knew that. Aren't you as much to blame for what's happened as I?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Charlie Townsend: Women are always under the impression that men love them more that they really do.
Kitty Fane: I wouldn't delude myself for a second that you were in love with me.
Charlie Townsend: Now there you're wrong.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kitty Fane: For God's sake, Walter, will you stop punishing me? Do you absolutely despise me?
Walter Fane: No. I despise myself.
Kitty Fane: Why?
Walter Fane: For allowing myself to love you once.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kitty Fane: It's raining cats and dogs.
Kitty Fane: I said it's raining cats and dogs.
Walter Fane: Yes, I heard you.
Kitty Fane: You might have answered.
Walter Fane: I suppose I'm not used to speaking unless I've something to say.
Kitty Fane: If people only spoke when they had something to say, the human race would soon lose the power of speech
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Walter Fane: Do you like flowers?
Kitty Fane: Not particularly, no. Well, I mean yes, but we don't really have them around the house. Mother says, "Why purchase something you can grow for free?" Then, we don't really grow them either. It does silly really. To put all that effort into something that's just going to die.

Note from me about this line " I think this really shows the ending is."

My favorite scene is when Kitty wanted her husband to pass the salt. It does really shows Kitty's characters

Happy Watching, I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do.

! phew finally  my internet works properly. But I shall instal everything, oh my!! from Skype, even I don't use that often only for language learning purposes, my YM, and everything. On Sundays, I watched a movie on TV about a boy, who lives in a remote area in Papua. There is no such thing of schools in remote areas in Papua. Schools aren't considered being the most important things in life. You life, you grow up for your tribe, your family, that's all that matter. ( Siapa aja yang dari Papua, kasih tahu kalu salah ya.)

Denias, the Papuan boy, has strong will to "break" the old tradition that says the boy in remote areas life for his tribe, and family; he wants to achieve career, he wants to go to school to study. He struggles to get ahead in life, to be accepted in a school. This story is based on a true story of Papuan boy, who is now has successful life, and good education.

This movie, to some people, is considered idealistic, hmm, I skip the question whether or not it is.

Apart from the story, I like the settings, which take place in a remote area in Papua; so beautiful. In one of the photos, you can see rainbow, right? This reminds me of the rainbow I saw here in Surabaya a couple days ago after a short rain. Sadly! I did not take my dcam with me.

I don't want to spill the bean, but some lines in the movie are indeed funny ( well according to Indonesians) - as I have written somewhere in this blog that comedy is interpreted differently by people, especially those who don't share the same languages.

Ini scene favor saya

Denias : Pak, maaf, bisa tolong saya!

TNI      : Iya

Denias : Taukah Bapak, Maleo. Saya ingin bertemu dengan Maleo

TNI      : Ada banyak Maleo disini. yang mana?

Denias : Maleo guru saya

TNI      : Ya siapa namanya?

Denias :Maleo

Ternyata Maleo adalah nama kesatuan TNI

Well, I guess this blog is just a reopening blog of mine after some times I had been dealing with the broken hardware, and connection!.

Okay, meanwhile let me sing today's theme song. If you know the song, let's sing! dare to doit?

"Somewhere over the rainbow way up high. There's a land  that I heard of once in a lullaby"

I think this is the kind of movie that's worth watching; selain buat hiburan, juga memperkenalkan budaya Indonesia yang beraneka ragam ( Indonesia bukan hanya Jawa kan?) ya semoga ini mengurangi gerakan separatis lah setidaknya. Anyway, the movie is just great

Meanwhile let me sing the theme song for today " I remember all the things we shared, I remember all the laughter we shared, all the stories.." by Mocca ( Indonesian Band)

for everyone

I have not joined PPF for sometime since I have been quite occupied with work and other things. The theme today was indeed interesting as it gives us some chances to get to know each other a little bit better or at least learn something from other people. Obviously, it is hard to decide what to put up here, but then I decided to put up this picture; Postcards and necklaces. I got all the collections from my friends, students and my special one. You are able to see different parts of the world through postcards, and if you are lucky or you want to, you can go to the places on the postcards. By the way, is your country there on some of the postcards I have? No?? well, meaning you've got to trade some with me, hehe. Necklaces! especiall ethnic ones, well I guess I just like them.

Far and far in a far away land,

Peaceful, different, beautiful, elegant,

Oh, what a harmonic life!

Respect, love, and harmony,

Oh, what a bliss!

For in a far away land,

Resides the one whom I care,

In far and far away lands

There, I find we are all the same after all

-Peace-
